What inspires me?

Ever since I was a child, I was always trying to make improvements upon the mundane. Always painting and drawing, I knew that would be the path I would follow as a career. Whenever my mother would receive new Avon books, I would pour through the books with longing for the day that I would be able to buy the cosmetics myself. However, I felt that the books were just “meh.” I didn’t think that they offered enough lipstick and nail polish color choices, or that the books were organized correctly. What’s a girl to do? I took it upon herself to rewrite and redesign the entire book for each campaign utilizing crayons, markers, pastels, oak tag paper and anything else I could get my hands on, including my mother’s lipsticks.

In hindsight, that was the beginning of my design career. That was also the beginning of my love for everything that epitomized being a modern, post-feminism woman: cosmetics, perfume, skin care, health and fashion. Oh, don’t even get me started on fashion! I love love love clothes! You can work and play in a man’s world, and look “put together” doing it too! You can also be over 40, and not look like a frump.

I also fell in love with music, especially rock & roll, from an early age while listening to the radio with my father. I’ve developed an encyclopedic knowledge of all useless trivia related to music (especially the groupies and their stories), movies and pop culture. It’s no surprise that I have been either volunteering or holding key positions at exhibiting/performing arts venues and am a board member of the Jersey Shore Jazz and Blues Foundation.

Oh, and then there’s wine and food. And tequila! As far as I’m concerned, life is too short to drink bad booze or eat bad food. I love to check out new restaurants – and NYC is my playground. Chelsea Market? Yep, I’m there. Todd English Food Hall at The Plaza? All over that one too. I especially love Restaurant Week in NYC. It’s a great way to check out new and fun places without breaking the bank.

I started this blog because I was always getting questioned by friends and acquaintances: Where did you find that blouse? Can you help me put together an outfit? Can you help me design my invitations? Your house looks great – can you help me with ideas for mine? You don’t look your age – what do you do? You’re always running around to these great places – how do you find out about them? and so the questions go on.

I’m not sure what to call myself. I don’t want to use the term “Lifestyle Expert” because it is used pretty loosely these days. Professionally, I aspire to have a style/life television show based on my blog. My favorite shows & hosts to emulate are Last Call with Carson Daly, How I Rock It with Baron Davis, Lynn Hoffman of Vh1 and Cat Greenleaf of Talk Stoop.

Maybe you can help define me. In the meantime, please enjoy my blog. I love to hear from people, so please feel free to comment and (shameless plug) please follow my blog and refer me!

To this day, I believe that it is my higher calling to make everything “beautiful and interesting.” (Like Christian in “Clueless” :o)
